My 2020 word is "challenge." I expect that I will challenge myself this year - professionally, emotionally, mentally and physically. I am getting out of my comfort zone and realizing that boundaries I have set for myself are just a figment of my imagination. This year will be about rethinking perceived limitations and absolutely stretching my creativity, philanthropy and expectations without limit.
The #girlgoals 2020 event on January 26, 2020 is a brand new endeavor for Jean Lachat Photography. My daughters are now 25, 20 and 17. We have survived the challenges of middle school together. We have found the "tween years" are difficult to navigate, even under the best circumstances. Tween girls are likely unsure how - or if - they will ever feel comfortable in their own body ever again, and struggle to establish their unique identity in a world where belonging is often valued more than staying true to who you are.
Tween girls need to believe in themselves and know their goals and dreams are limitless.
Attendees to the #girlgoals event will choose their own word for 2020. Under the direction of artist Emily Peace Franz, we will create art around their word. Girls will hear a truly inspirational talk by Amy Cavanaugh, a longtime educator and mom.
Each girl will have the opportunity to sit for a portrait with her artwork, and with her empowering word, which we will have her write on her arm, or leg, or forehead - whatever feels right to her. She will receive a gift of a 5x5 metal print to remember a day where she felt great about herself, and anything was possible. Following the event, families will have the chance to invest in additional artwork for their daughters and their homes.
I am challenging myself to reach people in an engaging and fun way in 2020. I am looking forward to connecting with new people in a way they will always remember and cherish.
