I will spend Mother's Day driving to St. Louis and helping Bec pack up her dorm room to come home.

It has been two years since I was able to take part in our family tradition of the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk, and we are all looking forward to getting back to doing the walk with Mother McAuley one of these years!

It’s also been almost six years since we lost our mom. It is a weird holiday, this Mother’s Day, when your mom is no longer on this earth. It makes me sad, but I try not to let it get to me too much. I do, after all, still have my own role as a mom to my girls.

And, I still talk to mom pretty regularly. I am pretty sure she hears me. Her voice remains present in my head with her wisdom and “Mom-isms.” I often speak her words to my own daughters, which is both delightful and disturbing.

Photographing the mom-child relationship is super important and special to me in my business. Moms are so often the ones behind the camera. They are also often overworked and underappreciated. Years can go by without mom being a single photo with her kids, and I just hate knowing that happens.

I would like to wish all moms a happy Mother’s Day. Not only CAN you “do it all,” you DO it every day.

I wish you a day filled with restful napping, beautiful flowers and delicious bonbons.
